Tepoztlan "Welcome to Morelos"

Actualizado: 6 sept 2022

A mystical destiny. We do not know if it is its mystical and bohemian atmosphere or its impressive views of steep and green hills, which make Tepoztlán, Morelos, a perfect destination to visit.

This Magical Town is located in the foothills of El Tepozteco National Park, whose main hill is full of mysticism. At its peak it shelters one of the jewels of the Mexica culture: a shrine dedicated to the warrior gods, from which you can admire the entire valley. Going on a morning walk is a must.

As you explore the cobbled and colorful streets of the Magical Town of Tepoztlán, take time to admire the entrance of the Ex-convent of the Nativity, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994. At the entrance you will see an arch made with seeds from the region, same that is elaborated by artisans of the town and whose theme changes every year. Next to the temple is the Carlos Pellicer Museum of Pre-Hispanic Art, with Mayan, Olmec and Zapotec pieces donated by the Tabasco poet.

The Tepozteco hillIts pyramid was built 800 years ago by the Xochimilcas.

It was a place of worship and where large pilgrimages arrived.

The Ometochtli Tepoztécatl, the pulque god associated with plant fertility and the winds, was worshiped.

The mountain range where it sits has been a Protected Natural Area since 1937. Around 54 endemic species live here and it is home to a large number of avian species.
